BS6 Honda Jazz likely to be launched soon - CarWale

The last-generation Honda Jazz was very capable but too overpriced, and hence, Honda pulled the plug on the rather slow-selling model. For a while, Honda was absent from the premium hatchback space until it launched the newer model in 2015. This model has done rather well for itself and is built on an all-new platform, and the mono-volume silhouette seems to have piqued the fancy of Indian car buyers. Fast forward to 2020, and the Honda Jazz gets some all-important exterior and feature updates and a BS6 petrol engine. After the recent launches of the updated Honda WR-V and the 5th-generation Honda City, the 2020 Honda Jazz is the third launch since the lockdown has been lifted.

Under the hood

The new Jazz continues to be powered by a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine that produces 89bhp and 110Nm of torque. The motor is mated either to a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission. This is the only car that’s automatic model comes equipped with paddle-shifters. A majority of buyers seemed to have been interested in the CVT model last year. From hereafter, however, there will be no diesel engine on offer in the Jazz because of poor sales. But other models, like the City, Amaze and WR-V will continue to have the option of a diesel engine.

The cosmetics

On the outsides, the new Honda Jazz gets a few tweaks here and there – like the reworked front bumper, the chrome accents surrounding the gloss black front grille along with full LED headlights and LED fog lights. The rear bumper too, has received some minor re-styling while the tail lights get the LED treatment as well.

Goodies galore

Features include keyless entry, cruise control, electrically adjustable and folding wing mirrors with indicators, 7.0-inch touchscreen system with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, paddle-shifters, 15-inch alloy wheels and rear wiper and wash. It also gets a new sunroof – a segment-first feature.

The Jazz comes across as a very practical hatchback, and the moment you open the doors, there’s lots of room in the cabin. It’s the most spacious car in the segment with ample head and legroom for five occupants. The magic seats at the back split, flip upwards and fold flat, and boot space is huge at 354-litres. These seats also make room for a recliner by pushing the front seat backrests completely, till they touch the rear seat base. The cushioning on the seat is a bit on the firm side. The steering feels nice to hold and the dashboard is made up of hard plastics. Also, grab the latest info on the upcoming cars, only at autoX.
